if there is not many files then a usb drive but if you have a lot of files then buy a external hard driveWhat should I save my computer files onto before I clear the computer completely so it is like new?
Get a portable external hard drive with at least 250Gb memory. Cut and paste everything you want onto the hard drive and check that it has transferred to the new drive. You can then reformat the computer back to factory settings and transfer all your old files back and at the same time you have a back up of all your old files
Hey Josie-
You should look into saving your files online. There are services like Office Live Workspace from Microsoft which let you save up to 5GB of files online- that's thousands of documents! Once you save your files (music, pics, spreadsheets, documents, movies etc) to your Workspace, you can then access them from any computer. All you need is your log-in info and a computer with an internet connection.

I always use DVD's to back up my files, even though I have an extra external hard drive I don't trust it 100% not to lose my files. Each DVD holds up to 4.7 gbs.I have all my photos and Audio books backed up onto DVD.
You can save your stuff on any media you choose. The trick is what you use to do the job. I'd recommend using software that would make a mirror image of your hard drive.
CD'S and DVD's are the best to save them to or a usb drive.
Might be better using disks'
you have many options 1) a USB stick 2) External Hard drive or Burn to a CD.
