You can boot up your computer with it and it should reformat your computer just follow the directions in what it tells you, you might have to install all your drives as well. Formatting doesn't completely erase your hard drive if you want to do that you have to create a bootable disk that will completely erase the hard drive with a DOD bleaching process that over writes all info on the hard drive.
