Use your recovery disks or go to www.downloads.com and download/install Active@KillDisk or another hard drive cleaner of your preference.I need to clear everything off my computer?
Don't format the hard drive unless you have valid CDs for everything you want reinstalled.
If you do, just open My Computer
right-click C:
click Format
That's it. You will probably end up with a black or green screen.
Before you format, which I consider the cure of last resort, why not run your antivirus software in Safe Mode? Hopefully you will catch any self-executable files. You can then run a complete scan. Who knows -- it just might work.
Restart your computer to get to Safe Mode:
%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;As soon as you see the system trying to load (it will probably be black and white)
%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;and before Windows tries to load,
%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;press and hold the F8 key.
%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;Continue holding it down until you see a black and white DOS menu. I think Safe Mode is F3.
Click Start, Run. Run your AV program. When it is finished, you will “EXIT” to Windows. Your desktop icons will probably be out of order – just drag them back. I would Restart, then run a full system scan to be safe.
