How do you clear a computer?

I am getting a new computer and want to clear my old one to give to my daughter. I know there is a way to do it, I just don't know how. I want basically everything wiped off of it so she can start fresh. Can anyone help me?How do you clear a computer?
If it's a newer model, then watch closely at the bottom of the screen when you very first turn it on. It will tell you to press a certain key to do a system restore. After you press the key follow the directions, it's pretty easy but can be time consuming.

If it's not a newer model then you will need the cds that came with the computer when you first bought the computer. One of the cds is called a system restore disk. Put it in and boot up the computer. When the computer gets going, follow the onscreen directions... again, it's easy but time consuming.

If neither of these apply then call a relavtive or friend who is good with computers... it's really not that hard. How do you clear a computer?
do a fresh install of windows. just load the windows cd into the cd/dvd tray, and reboot. you may have to go into your bios settings and tell it to boot from cd/dvd first by clicking esc/f2/f10/f12 at the loading screen.

then tell it to boot from cd. it will ask you if you want to reformat which you click yes
There are in fact `free` progs on the Net that will wipe your hard drive clean.

But - I have never tried them and therefore could not guarantee any of them to you. You`d use them at your own risk.

Free wipe wizard 2.3 is one of them, there are others if you wish to seek them out with Google.

One was recently recommended to me by an expert, but - sorry, I have lost the link. Good Luck and I hope some expert on here recommends a safe one for you.
Here is a guide with pictures.
