The only thing is i don't know how to get rid of all my stuff off of it, like programs, documents, and all that mumbo jumbo that is stored deeep within the computer. How do i clear the computer completely?How do you clear out your computer?
Once you've transferred everything you do want to your new computer, do a full clean reinstall of the operating system on the old machine. That should wipe out everything else - softwear, files, the whole tamale.How do you clear out your computer?
I got lazy. I found a linux install disc that started out by formatting the hard drive, so I just shove that in and it works fine.
restart the pc in msdos mode:
at the command prompt type, ';format c:';
hit enter
If its XP in which you may not be able to reboot to a command prompt:
Get a floppy boot disk. (win98 and up)
have it IN the drive and restart.
get it to the prompt and type, ';a:';
then, ';fdisk';
this is a program that partitions and formats hd's
simply follow the directions, and navigate to ';delete primary partion'; or somthing to that effect. select the drive and it will confirm to delete the partition. YES. Now even the os is gone and the hd must be partitiond again. So go to the main menu of fdisk where you started and find ';create primary dos partition'; follow its directions. you will have to format AFTER you partition and when asked format to NTFS and the next person can install windows cleanly. hit any snags... I can walk you through it. twiztid_ditzwit@yahoo.com
