I need to make room for the software for my new webcam I bought today, but when I went to install it, my whole computer restarted, and it told me I didn't have enough disk space available and to basically delete some things. How can I do this? I'm a bit technologically illiterate, aha.How can I clear disk space on my computer?
If you have a PC...
Start %26lt; Control Panel %26lt; Add or remove Programs
Be careful what you remove. How can I clear disk space on my computer?
I would suggest you find a freeware tool as equal to ';CCleaner';. Using it you can delete temporary files (files programs made that our not necessary after a session with a program). Web browsers especially leave a lot of temporary files (called a cache which is made up of files to make up web pages). They usually have their own method to delete these files, but CCleaner is much more automated. Next remove programs using CCleaner, and then use CCleaner to fix the registry, most of the time by deleting the ';values';.
Since you just deleted so many files off your computer, I suggest to use Auslogics Disk Defrag and Auslogics Registry Defrag (both from Download.com). Don't be scared when Auslogics Registry Defrag wants to make a backup of your pc and restart (which it should do both about twice). This should get some space for you, and make your PC more responsive.
go to your start menu and click on control panel. then click on add/remove programs. In here you can delete old programs and free up space. just b careful not to delete anything important. but if u have old software u don'tt use anymore, u can get rid of it. Also if you have a lot of pictures on there you could move them to CD's and then delete the ones you dont really need. Same with music. Hope i helped :)
Run ';Free up space on your hard disk'; in ';Performance and Maintenance'; in your Control Panel.
you can delete temp files, unused or unwanted files or uninstall programs
you need to go to the control panel, there choose remove software. Then choose the packages you don't need anymore.
Step 1
Remove unwanted installed programs. Click on the ';Start'; menu. Then go to ';Control Panel.'; A window will pop up with about 30 tabs. Click on the ';Add or Remove Programs'; tab. A list will populate with all of your installed programs. Remove the ones that you no longer use. If you do not know what a program is, you may not want to remove it. It could be a system file that is needed to run your computer.
Step 2
Delete downloaded programs on your computer's hard disk. Go through your personal files and delete the ones you wish to get rid of. This will free up space on your hard drive and help it run more smoothly. If you do not use the programs any longer, burn them to CD or just delete them completely.
Step 3
Click on ';My Computer';. Go to the ';Windows'; folder. There are two folders in the ';Windows'; folder that you need to take care of. Open the ';Temp'; folder. Click on edit on the top of that page. ';Select All'; should be chosen. Then click on ';File'; up at the top and choose delete. Repeat this process for the ';Windows'; folders, ';Downloaded Program File.';
Step 4
Delete your cookies. In Mozilla Firefox, click on the ';Tools'; tab. Then the ';Options'; tab. A small window will pop up. Click on the ';Privacy'; tab, then ';Show Cookies.'; Another window will pop up; click ';Remove All Cookies.'; In Internet Explorer, click on ';Tools'; on the top, then ';Internet Options.'; A window will appear. The ';Delete Cookies'; and the ';Delete Files'; tabs will need to be clicked.
Step 5
Download Ad-Aware and Spybot. Both are free programs that assist you in getting rid of any malicious files on your computer's hard disk. Install them, update the programs and follow the directions.
Step 6
Run your anti-virus program. This will ensure that you do not have any harmful files or programs installed. If you do not have a virus program. AVG is a free anti-virus program that is installed on your computer. You could also use Trend Micro HouseCall. This is a free anti-virus program that can be run from your browser.
Step 7
Defragment your hard drive. Click on the ';Start'; menu. Go to ';All Programs.'; Locate ';Accessories'; then ';System Tools.'; Run the Defragmenter.
Step 8
Format. This should be the last step. If your computer's hard disk is still running sluggish after all of the previous steps, formatting may be the only solution left. Before you take this measure, back up any files you do not want to lose and have your Windows CD ready with the installation code.
