software on the web for it, or take it to a techWhat is the best way to clear off the harddrive of a computer before recycling it?
reformat it
Take the hard drive out of the computer and destroy it with a hammer.
If you can put in as much as jpeg and avi files into it and then reformat it at least 7 times, yep, pretty much is clean. That is if you want to safe the hdd so somebody else can use it.
formatting does not clean the hard drive all it does is write over it and info still can be recovered by a recovery software go to www.killdisk.com and download the free soft ware that will totally clean the hard drive and take it back to the day it was made

When I connect my ipod to a new computer for the first time, will itunes automatically clear my ipod?
I need to transfer my ipod songs to a new library on a different computer, my desktop crashed. Im worried that when I connect it and then access the transfer program, itunes will automatically start transferring, and because the library is empty, it will clear the ipod. Its a simple question but I dont know the right way to do it lol. Please help! When I connect my ipod to a new computer for the first time, will itunes automatically clear my ipod?
When you connect the ipod, there will be a pop-up that says ';erase and sync';(which will clear the ipod and sync it with the library on that computer), and there's another one that say ';transfer purchases';(which will put the content of the ipod on the computer and wipe the computer's previous library) CLICK ';TRANSFER PURCHASES';!!!!!!!When I connect my ipod to a new computer for the first time, will itunes automatically clear my ipod?
If you have music on your ipod you have bought from itunes then you will have to authorize the computer to play them again the instructions are here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
If not, you need to buy this program http://www.dvdtoipodtouch.org/ipod-touch鈥?/a> it will transfer all your music from the ipod into itunes, new iPod. very simple, easy to do!
when u connect ut ipod to a different computer it will say something like a new ipod has been connected do u want to sync it (i think this happens)when it does click no but if it just starts sync as fast as u can just stop it or close itunes, the safest way is to uninstall itunes run the program transfer the music then install it again.

My computer is running low on memory, what can I clear off it to make more memory?
I have defragmented, done a disk clean up, deleted emails, deleted photos and programs I don't use but my memory is still low. Is there anything else I can do?My computer is running low on memory, what can I clear off it to make more memory?
If your virus/spyware free, there are a couple things you can do get your computer working faster. If you using your computer for normal stuff and not gaming. You don't always need more RAM you just need to perform a few maintenance task.
First, if you haven't cleaned your registry in a while. This is necessary. Your registry holds all the information regarding updates, installs, un-installs etc. Each one of those events produces a key. That key needs your PC's resources and free space. So, if you clean your registry, you make more resources available for speed. Do a registry scan if you got more than 20 errors you should clean it.
http://www.delete-computer-history.com/w鈥?/a>
2. Clear your Windows cache files, this is your temporary file. It can grow up to a large volume and stop your computer from using RAM properly. In a sense slow it down by preventing it from using free space. Here is how:
1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
2. Click Start, click ';Control Panel';, and then double-click ';Internet Options';.
3. On the General tab, click ';Delete Files'; under Temporary Internet Files.
4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the ';Delete all offline content'; check box , and then click OK.
5. Click OK.
3. Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:
1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type ';msconfig.exe';
4. In the ';system configuration utility';,click either ';service'; or ';startup'; tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click ';OK';My computer is running low on memory, what can I clear off it to make more memory?
MEMORY is what your computer uses to run software and the operating system. STORAGE is where your computer stores files. These terms are often confused because they use the same unit of measure, the byte.
If your computer tells you that the disk is full, you need more STORAGE space to store all of your stuff. If you need more memory to run more software, or have upgraded from XP to Vista, etc. you need to install more RAM.
Deleting files from your hard disk when you need more memory, is kind of like adding a quart of oil when your low fuel light comes on. It might be necessary, but isn't going to help your current situation.

I want to sell my computer, what is the best software to clear everything off of it so it runs like new?
I don't really want to just download software I'd like to buy one from like best buy or something, but I want my computer to be just like it was when I first bought it, none of my information left on it or anything. What is best? The only thing I can find is wipedriver 5.0...
Oh and I don't have my start up disks so I can't use that. I want to sell my computer, what is the best software to clear everything off of it so it runs like new?
You can contact the manufacturer for a restore disk, which is usually cheaper than the alternatives.
I would recommend formatting the drive (if the restore disc will work after a clean format) to help clear your data off of it, or using a stronger wiping software that will re-write incoherent data overtop of yours, and then reinstalling the computer operating system with the restore disk.
You can also sometimes find restore disks for common makes of computers on Ebay, just make sure it is for the correct model. I want to sell my computer, what is the best software to clear everything off of it so it runs like new?
Get yourself a knoppix CD and run DD on your hard drive:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=1M
where /dev/hda is the correct unix device :-)
Wipe Drive 5 is the best tool to do the job, I recommend you use that!!!

Startup passwords are most likely set in the BIOS setup screen. This means that if you can't get to BIOS setup without entering a password, then you have to clear the BIOS settings via the motherboard. Assuming this is not a Laptop, use Google to find out what type of motherboard you have, find the manufacturer's website and the manual for the motherboard. It will tell you which jumper to pull for bios password reset. How to clear start up password on computer?

How can I fix a picture i found on computer to blow up big and clear?
I found some pictures on the computer which I save for a school project but it is small and i want to blow it up bigger. The problem is when I blow the pics up they become blurry. How can I fix the mega pixels on it to make it clear...if that is correctHow can I fix a picture i found on computer to blow up big and clear?
do you have any image editors? then you could resize the pixels or inches to not make blurry.
irfanview was a free viewer and it could resizeHow can I fix a picture i found on computer to blow up big and clear?
that is going to be a little hard, you might need some specialized software that can take a small picture and make it bigger without loss of quality. But it is very difficult to do without it.

It is really hard to correct poor photography, although there are some methods to improve it.
Most can only be done in a program called ';Photoshop'; which costs a pretty penny. Another similar program is called Gimp.
There may be software that comes with your computer, basic photo studios that allow you to correct blur a bit.Is there any computer program that can make blurry pictures to clear ones?
im sorry 4 being late and i saw that your question was not resolved. i DO NOT know why Yahoo resolved your question when IT was not answered........
Yes you can make a photo better (sharper). Yes you can use a program (software) to do this. Yes you DO NOT have to purchase expensive photoshop (ev
Two opensource programs come to mind (works on all platform OS - Linux, Mac, and that other one)
Gervais - answered on for you GimpShop- gimpshop.com

second is Gimp - gimp.org
Nope. That's science fiction that you see on TV and movies.
You can try sizing the picture down (ie resize) and applying a Gaussian blur in Photoshop (or something similar), but it will not be ';clear.'; It might get slightly better.
there's picasa 3, photoscape, photo plus se, gimp, adobe photoshop album starter edition and lots more. u just search for it on the net. i haven't tried any of these by the way, i just use hp photosmart premiere.

How can i clear A LOT of space on my computer, for free?
My computer is about 5 years old, and has just recently been fixed. I do not have but maybe 2 programs i've downloaded, but it saids only 180 mb of space is left out of 37.2 gb. Any help would be niceHow can i clear A LOT of space on my computer, for free?
Disk maintenance helps good performance and disk life.
Once every 3 months run the 'disk check' which will look for physical problems on the Hard Drive disk sectors.
For XP do this: Start%26gt; my computer%26gt; right click 'c' drive%26gt; properties%26gt; tools%26gt; error check: here check both boxes, then OK. The next time you cold boot your system, this process will run (maybe 30-60 minutes) fixing disk errors(if any).
Another disk performance item is to 'compress contents' and 'allow index service'. These help optimize file recovery speed %26amp; save disk space.
Start%26gt; my computer%26gt; right click 'c' drive%26gt; properties%26gt; general tab: here check both boxes %26amp; 'OK'.
Don't freak out, it may say 3 days or more to run, but this time drops dramatically as the process advances; just walk away and let 'er run for the duration: it will self close when done.
Depending on the files %26amp; sizes, it may take several hours to do (maybe do it at night before bed?).
When done, run 'CCleaner' %26amp; defrag the drive. How can i clear A LOT of space on my computer, for free?
If you have Windows XP, and use system restore, system restore can take up a lot of room on your hard drive. You can turn this off by right click my computer, properties, system restore tab. On this same tab you could just limit the amount of disk space it uses if you want to still use system restore. Reboot to see the result.
Also if your computer can ';hibernate'; this takes up a LOT of space on your hard drive. You can also turn this off. First click on Start button, Control Panel, click on Performance and Maintenance then click on Power Options. Uncheck the box enable hibernation. Reboot and check your disk space (My computer, right click the drive in question, then left click properties.
You can also resize the amount of disk space reserved for the recycle bin by left clicking on it and properties, then move the slider to a smaller space reserve.
You would definitely need to defrag the drive at this point.
For the purposes of this answer, I will assume you to have a basic understanding of Windows Explorer and directories. If this is not the case, this could be a good learning experience.
First, install any programs you never use. Also, be sure uninstall any useless programs that came with it when you bought it, such as trial programs.
Next, download and install the free SequoiaView software from here: http://w3.win.tue.nl/nl/onderzoek/onderz…
Run it and you can examine the files on your hard drive to see what is taking up your disk space. Make sure you know which files go with what, then remove all programs and directories that you no longer need.
I also recommend Ccleaner, http://www.ccleaner.com/download
I've been 'the computer guy' where I work for over 23 years, and this is what I use to see what is taking up the space.
first go to the control panel on your computer then click performance and maintains then click rearrange items on your hard drive to make the programs run faster(this is your disk defragmenter) basically your computer will compact all programs and put them together so they are not scattered on your hard drive this will not only give you more memory space on your computer but it will also make your computer run faster also think about deleting files and programs that you no longer use hope this helps
CCleaner is a really good software. I believe it's free. Also try going to My Computer on your desktop, right click your hard drive, click properties, then click the tools section, then click defragment. This may take a few hours. It would be best if you did this thru the night.
Install this program click on ';Care ';.
Now your computer will be serviced completely. You do not have to do anything yourself

if you are using firefox then just go hit the keys control+shift+delete. if you are using internet explorer then go to the history (control+H) and delete the folders for that day you don't want any one to know about.
To be sure, you might also right click on the internet icon, go to ''properties'', ''advanced''and choose ''Empty temporary internet folders when browser is closed''.

Search on Google for your particular browser.
The only regular way of doing it is as you described Internet Options %26gt; Clear History + the ';Delete Files'; buttons there.
However, sometimes the database files that takes care of these two features has a nasty habit of becoming corrupted...... in which case you'll need a ';cache cleaner'; tool, such as the one included in ';ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite'; to shift the damn thing.
I'd just like to point out that if your boss is watching/keep tabs the web addresses would be stored in a file on the network the split second you went to that site.
The only use of deleting off your computer is if he sat in your chair and used your computer.

you either click on the histroy icon, or for example I use Mozilla instead of internet explorer, and while in the internet, I hit ctrl and H at the same time, your history will pop up, right click over the day, or site you want deleted, and *poof* all gone.
Okay here is the full cleaning package haha. First open your internet Explorer. Next go to Tools then Internet Options. Once you are there you can Delete Cookies, Delete Files, and Clear History. Everything is disapeared now. If you want your computer to be refreshed and have no traces left behind also, just go to Start then All Programs then Accessories then Disk Cleanup. This is really quick and easy and it gives your computer a faster and fresher look! Hope this works! How do you clear the history of sites visited on your computer?
if you are using firefox then just go hit the keys control+shift+delete. if you are using internet explorer then go to the history (control+H) and delete the folders for that day you don't want any one to know about.
To be sure, you might also right click on the internet icon, go to ''properties'', ''advanced''and choose ''Empty temporary internet folders when browser is closed''.
i suggest don't surf the net in office cause some companies do install programmes to track the actitivties of you using the computer and the websites you had visited. It's very easy to identify the person using the computer and the time and duration they used.Your boss could have asked the IT guy for a list of '; What Have My Staff Did In Their Computer';
From explorer... Tools - Internet Options. Clear history, cookies ect...

Don't forget to delete your cookies as they may have the website as well; or to double check your history button on the explorer above.
hey!
on ut desktop, right click on the icon of internetexplorer and then clik on properties and then in the general section, there would be written historyand then click on clear history.
If you are using i.e. -%26gt; tools, internet options, clear history

If you are using Yahoo then go the top of the menu and select internet option and you'll see it.

I want to clear my computer and start again.?
my computer runs on windows 98, i have the installation disc but how do i wipe the computer clean to reinstall the disc so that i get rid of everything. is it actually possible to do once windows ahs already been installed once?I want to clear my computer and start again.?
Here's a complete guide that'll walk you through the entire process of reinstalling Windows 98 step-by-step.
Don't forget to back up any files you want to keep!I want to clear my computer and start again.?
just make sure your computer boots from cd-rom
the put th disc into the cd-rom
reboot
and just follow the on screen instructions
view this web page to show how to format of your computer if you are unsure(goodluck)
Get axe.
Hit computer with axe.
Pick up bits.
Drop in bin (marked recycling of course)
Call Dell.
do a reformat it seems to work when my b/f does it on his
Stick the disc in and it should give you the option of a full reinstall. If you click on this it will then warn you that all files will be lost, or something like that. If you then continue, it should reinstall the operating system to the original state.
There's no need to remove the old stuff first.
Before you start SAVE YOUR DATA. Just to make sure you get the message I'll shout it again. SAVE YOUR DATA.
Open a DOS box and type format c:
Answer Y at the prompt and go away for a beverage of your choice.
When it's finished your hard drive will be a blank canvas for your next OS installation.
You did remember to save your data before you started, didn't you?
And to all those doom and gloom merchants above.. If a legal copy on Win98 is all the questioner has then he is to be commended for using it. The OS works perfectly well for what would be considered a low spec machine today and if it does all that is required, then why spend more.
Says me with a new Vista PC and more elcetronics than I'll ever use properly.
get linux, get off winders
For all of you out there that seem to think that win98 is the same as winxp are sadly mistaken! You need a win 98 startup floppy to setup win 98. If you don't have one, you can go to Best Buy and have one made for you.(I'd get 4-5 of them, as they tend to corrupt easily) When you get it, stick it in the slot and restart the computer. then it'll say its going to try to restart your computer....ignore....it'll then go to a doss place and have 1. 2. 3. settings to choose from. Then choose 2. for cdrom support. then click ok. Let it do its thing and eventually it'll get to this point.......A: then type in A:format c: It'll ask if you want to lose all your files and data with a Yor N......Choose Y and there you go, it will format. When you are done, follow directions and then it'll get back to A: then type in A:setup C: and make sure before you type that, that you have put your win98 cd in the cdrom. And click ok and follow directions. If A:setup C: doesn't work do this A:C: then it'll go to C: then type C:setup win98 and it should.
Format the drive and all is gone.Your hard drive must be having partitions on it like C,D,E,F and so on.Your windows must surely be on drive C.So in the DOS mode at the prompt type the command Format C: and press enter. The drive will be formatted and everything on drive C will be wiped clean.Thereafter load your windows98 setup. But remember,if you do not have experience of formatting better take the help of a prof.cause loading from CD needs some knowledge of DOS.
Yes indeed it is possible to install an operating system over a space where a same copy or any other operating system exists!
But dude! I must prefer to upgrade yourself as soon as possible, because even Microsoft is supporting Windows 98 anymore...
yeah pop in the disk and when it asks you if you want to read form the disk press anything.
It will guide you through the steps of formating the compute rand reinstalling the OS.
Just make sure you bios is reading your CD-rom first so that it would not read to your harddrive first and load the windows
Windows 98 runs over Dos operating system so if you have the 3 dos disks you can use these to reformat your hard drive - I'm assuming when you say 'wipe clean' you mean reformat. This process will wipe all data from your hard drive. Once done, you can use your win 98 startup disk to boot the machine with cd capabilities, you can then insert your cd to reinstall.
By just inserting the win 98 disk, you will have the option of reinstalling windows but not losing your data.... Its up to you what you need to do for what purpose
You shouldnt be running Windows98 you should go out and buy XP. You can reinstall 98. All you need to do is format your Hard drive either via command prompt and type format c:
Or
You can put the disk in and boot from the CD when prompted to and just delete the partition where 98 is stored on and just reinstall Windows.
YOU SHOULD REALLY BUY XP OR 2000 AT LEAST
you still got win 98? go to bed and wake up tomorrow and win xp be there!

How to clear the last person who owned this computer before me so that only my information is in it?
the problem i have is that i cant use the auto fill or anything else because it puts the other persons info in.How to clear the last person who owned this computer before me so that only my information is in it?
format itHow to clear the last person who owned this computer before me so that only my information is in it?
Reformatting is kind of drastic. You don't say what operating system you're using. If it's Windows, you can go to ';Users'; in ';Control Panel'; and add a new user, then put your name in. After you've done that, log out and then log in as yourself. Make sure you give yourself administrator permissions. Once you've logged in as yourself, you can go to Control Panel, users and delete the old users.
If you're just wanting to clear the web browser, you can go to Tools, Clear Private Data in firefox, or tools, Internet Options, in I.E.
The best thing to clear the old information is FORMAT your hard-drive again. And re-install the window or something then it'll be a new one for you. Don't forget to back-up your info if you've already put some data in it.
without going into the complexities of formatting (though that's the only way to delete all past info) you can kill the autofill in the settings of your browser, or reinstall another browser.
Get the Hard Drive reformatted up town. I found a place cheap as $45 if you put everything back on it your self such as Windows etc
reformat the computer , this erases what is currently on the computer
Format the hard drive and re-install the O.S.
format the drive if you have vista press f8 when starting up the pc it auto formats it
You have to have the hard drive removed completely.
reformat it bro

Does restarting you computer clear RAM?
I was just wondering.Does restarting you computer clear RAM?
Open your computer in safe mode ( push F8 when it begins to boot up) Then remove some of your start-up programs. This will help with the RAM problem.Does restarting you computer clear RAM?
If your computer always restart, There are some reason:
I. It's Hot in There
Sometimes this can be caused by an overheating situation. Itunes, RealPlayer, Windows Media player, etc. require a lot of processing power to decompress and decode music files, which can cause the processor or hard drive to get hot.
Memory Fails Me...
If you determine that overheating is not the problem, the most likely suspect is bad memory.
II. Don't Do Me Any Favors
There's a setting buried in Windows XP that tells your computer to restart when a system error occurs. you turn off that option, you may solve your automatic reboot problem.
1) Click Start, then open Control Panel
2) Click Performance and Maintenance
3) Click System
4) Click on the Advanced Tab
5) Click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section
6) Uncheck Automatically Restart in the System failure section
Note that this may prevent the system from restarting, but it can also mask the true problem.
The most common cause of computer restarting is a corrupt registry.
Most likely your registry is bloated and overstuffed with an assortment of useless pieces of data. The operating system while running your computer has to pick its way through all this excess material. There will be bits of programs which were not completely uninstalled, parts of programs which were never completely installed, fragments of miscellaneous data, useless drivers, and a multitude of other bits and pieces.
The answer is to clean your registry and remove all the material which is not needed.

This can also be a virus or spyware problem. I suggest you go through your Control Panel / Add or Remove Programs list and remove any programs you don't need, then run thorough anti-virus and anti-spyware scans. See:

How can i clear my computer back to manufacturers setting?
its an acer computer and had had a couple of usersHow can i clear my computer back to manufacturers setting?
One way to see if you can is to open my computer and see if there is a D: drive that says restore.
If it does then you will see a command to enter when you boot up. There you will be advised to do a restore. If you do this you will lose all saved data, ie pictures, documents.
Also look for any restore disks that came with it.How can i clear my computer back to manufacturers setting?
depending how old it is it may have a recovery partition on the hard drive. This can be initiated by pressing ALT + F10 when the computer is first switched on. You will need to hold down ALT as soon as the Acer splash screen appears, and repeatedly press F10. The window of opportunity is very small, so this may take a few attempts. The Disk2Disk recovery feature allows you to recover the system without recovery CDs. This will return your system to factory settings and will delete everything stored on the machine. If possible I strongly advise backing up anything important on your machine before starting the recovery process.
If it does not have a restore partition then it requires disks which can be purchased from acer for approx 拢30-50
go into my computer and have a fiddle and see if you can do it. Somr computers have a reset button.

well if you want cleaning programs, go to add/remove programs in control panel
but if you want to delete downloaded files, check your ';My Music'; or your 'downloaded files' folders
check also your temporary files (not your temporary internet files, theyre different), usually downloaded installers go in here
in your run bar, type %temp% (include the percent sign) then click run, now delete everything you dont need
if it says cant delete a certain file, skip it and move to the next file.

How long does it take for courts in southern california to clear paid tickets from the computer?
Ask this in law enforcement and police. How long does it take for courts in southern california to clear paid tickets from the computer?
California is doing all that it can to reach into every citizens pocket book. Why they don't round up those illegals occupying much of the parking lot at Home Depot is beyond me- this would certainly be the best expenditure of our tax dollar, just for starters. Can I refuse to pay an Austrian dictator his due? I don't think so- I own a home here and thus am well and truly screwed. How long does it take for courts in southern california to clear paid tickets from the computer?
Before I retired from law enforcement in Ca. it was every 999 days. Every Sunday night the State computers were off line to add and delete information. It may have changed by now.

How do completely clear a computer.?
how do you clear all private files. How do completely clear a computer.?
Format the hard drive. It's a very simple procedure.
Step by step on how to do it...http://www.build-your-own-computers.com/鈥?/a>How do completely clear a computer.?
you need a bit more info here.
if you want to completely clear a computer, you'll need to Format your drive, this will get shot o EVERYTHING. like everything.
as for clearing private files, find the stuff you want to get shot of, then fire them into the bin, then empty it.
you can still get em back from there but it takes some working to get it.
Click to open Computer Management. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
In the Navigation pane, under Storage, click Disk Management.
Right-click an unallocated region on your hard disk, and then click New Simple Volume.
In the New Simple Volume Wizard, click Next.
Type the size of the volume you want to create in megabytes (MB) or accept the maximum default size, and then click Next.
Accept the default drive letter or choose a different drive letter to identify the partition, and then click Next.
In the Format Partition dialog box, do one of the following:
If you don't want to format the volume right now, click Do not format this volume, and then click Next.
To format the volume with the default settings, click Next.
Review your choices, and then click Finish.
boot into safe mode by tapping away at f8 until you reach a screen with options like ';safe mode with networking'; or ';start windows normally';. choose safe mode, this will only load the basic windows drivers, so the trojan will be inactive, almost in a kind of suspended animation, and if it's slow there, it will at least be faster than normal. SOMETIMES A BLACK SCREEN POPS UP WITH TEXT RUNNING DOWN IT, DO NOT PANIC, THIS IS NORMAL, SO JUST WAIT UNTIL THE LOGON SCREEN APPEARS. THEN ONCE YOU ARE IN GO TO THE START MENU AND TYPE IN SYSTEM RESTORE. this is a utility that allows you to roll back your computer to an earlier state (it saves an image of the hard drive and uses that, anyway) so fire that up, and use it to roll the system back to an earlier date, GO WITH THE DATE THAT YOU LAST REMEMBERED YOUR COMPUTER WORKING AND HAVE IT GO BACK TO THAT DATE. now this will take a while, longer than an hour, so find an alternate source of entertainment while it is rewriting the hard drive. NOTE IF THE START MENU DOES NOT LOAD, OR TAKES A VERY LONG TIME TO LOAD, JUST BRING UP THE TASK MANAGER WITH CTRL+ALT+DELETE, AND UNDER THE APPLICATIONS TAB, SELECT START NEW TASK, AND TYPE IN ';system restore'; note that it could take a while to start up, so just be patient and wait. once it does, then just follow the steps I gave you. and also if you wipe the memory, the trojan will come off, along with everything else on the drive, including windows, so you're going to need to reinstall it. BUT ONLY DO THAT IF THE SYSTEM RESTORE METHOD FAILS.
Source(s):
having gone through the same problem with my sister's laptop. ******************note that once you go through this it should be fine, but it never hurt to be cautious. once you're back in, the first thing you should do is download firefox, it's safer and faster than internet explorer. then once you download that, get the mcafee siteadvisor plugin, this handy little piece of s*** will tell you if a site is safe to use or not, I find it very useful. the next step would be to update your antivrus software, and update it, and then run a scan. although if it let this happen, I suggest kicking it to the curb and getting something more trustworthy, like kaspersky or bitdefender. and then this somewhat unnecessary, but itll help you a bit. GO TO THE START MENU AND TYPE IN msconfig, then click on the startup programs tab. turn off anything you don't need to start up, like itunes, shareaza, limewire, and the like. BUT IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS OR IF IT SOUNDS IMPORTANT, THEN LEAVE IT ALONE. and also delete any apps and programs that you never use, like if you don't use bittorrent anymore. and FINAL STEP is to set the appearance of everything so that it looks like windows 2000. turn off unnecessary effects like transparent windows and all of those effects. it might not look as good, but what matters more to you? performance, or speed? once you're done with all of this, you should be good to go. hope that helps!!!!! ^____________________^
Well, your going to have to go and search for everything you want to delete. Or completely erase everything on your computer. Which is called formatting it. If you format your computer you would have to reinstall your operating system also.

You can restore your computer to it's factory settings either by using the backup disk's that came with your pc or pressing F8 on computer boot up and selecting 'Computer Repair'
If you want to wipe it completely, including the operating system, then try Darik's Boot And Nuke: http://www.dban.org/

Note...it took 12hrs to wipe my 235 gig harddrive
Format the hard disk.
Or if you know what are your private data, manually delete it.
You can search DOD wiping software on google.
Change the hard drive.
throw it out of a really high window

BUT ONLY DO THAT IF THE SYSTEM RESTORE METHOD FAILS.

having gone through the same problem with my sister's laptop.
If you format your computer you would have to reinstall your operating system also.

clear out all internet history files to help your pc run faster
The best way to clear your computer of dangerous clutter and viruses is to use a commercially produced product like what Symantic or McAfee put out. Yes, you will have to pay, but you are getting the work of skilled professionals as well as free updates for a year, and then after the year is up, a chance to upgrade on line for a small fee. It is worth the peace of mind.
Face it, you have to pay to maintain your computer. You also take your car to the dealer for service, don't you? You don't just buy a car and then not maintain it. Nor should you just buy a computer and expect it to take care of itself.
If you cannot afford the upkeep, then maybe you shouldn't have bought a computer.
There are many SCAMS online that promise to clean up your machine, but only load your machine with other dangerous junk.
So, save up your money, and buy a well known computer protection service like Symantic or McAfee and you will keep your computer safe and running well.
get avg and ad-aware for free, do a google search for lavasoft and gri-soft, both are free.
hope this helps?
There are quite a few things you need to do.
1. Get rid of programs you do not need under Add/Remove programs in your control panel.
2. Download Spybot and Ad-aware and run those
3. Download Trend Micro's Housecall and run a check
4. Defrag
5. Clean out Temp. files
6. Run a virus scan
7. See how many processes you are running (programs running in background) and stop the ones you do not need.
Before attempting to remove malware you must switch off System Restore as back up files will be hiding in there, and it will just restore itself. Go to Start - programs - accessories - system tools - system restore.
Run your anti virus and anti spyware in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode repeatedly press the F8 key after the bios screen loads but before Windows loads. You'll know if you made it because the screen will be at 800 x 600 and your pc will be slow.
Then beef up your security. Its easier to prevent malware getting on to your sytem in the first place rather than trying to remove it.
The Windows firewall doesn't stop malware on your pc from dialling out. Zone Alarm firewall is free for personal use and stops unwanted incoming and outgoing traffic. You choose which programs are allowed to access the internet. It's fairly easy to use and updated regularly.

There are tons of anti spyware stuff on the market but I don't really trust them all. I suspect some of them of planting spyware.
Grisoft is good for viruses but doesn't do much for spyware.
I get rid of mine manually, which is quite time consuming but works.
Spyware usually resides in the system folder or system32 folder.
First ALT/CTRL/DEL and check to see which processes are running. Find dodgy names like sucker.exe, bridge.exe and any that your not sure what they do.
Do searches on google to find out if your running processes are bona fide.
Attempt to stop the ones you'e identified as dodgy. Some of the spyware will not let you stop or delete them, so you must use Search to find them.
Once you have located them, and if you cannot delete them, rename them.
Run regedit and do a further search for all the dodgy processes, delete these from your registry.
Reboot your computer and delete all the dodgy renamed files.
Recheck your runnimg processes through Task Manager and repeat the above until all running processes are true.

How to make picture clear when I zoom in on the computer?
In most Movies (like Eagle Eye), when the FBI or CIA or other Secret Service organisation is chasing after some dude and they get him caught on a camera, to see his face closer they zoom in and the pic gets pixilated. Then they press the button and it's all clear.
I wonder if there is such software in reality? How to make picture clear when I zoom in on the computer?
there may be...who can say? suppose I told you there isn't. Except I CAN'T prove a negative. I've ONLY seen such software miracles on tv shows and movies. How to make picture clear when I zoom in on the computer?
Here's thing - you can't ADD pixels to anything, at least not enough to zoom in on a crappy photo and have it be clear as day. It doesn't work that way.
However, there are a few programs that will HELP a little bit. Let's say you have an image and want to just up it a LITTLE bit there are a few that'll help. But they're mostly used for design purposes, not other things.
Again, who knows what the FBI have access to that we don't? Lol.free antivirus download

If i was dead I would not care if anyone saw my history. It only goes back a few weeks anyway.
Naw! I would invite everyone over, then browse thru all the history while having drinks!

Depending on which program you are talking about, the solution could be different.
As a general rule, that behavior is called autocomplete.
So my suggestion is to check in the program's help file on the way to disable/clear autocomplete entries.
Hope this helps guide you

How do I clear out the hardrive on my desktop computer?
I'm selling my PC to my friend, but I want to make sure that all the files and pictures I saved on it is completely gone. How do I do that?
Also, should I run a virus software on it first before I sell it?How do I clear out the hardrive on my desktop computer?
You can go to Maxtor.com and download
PowMax4.23 to a floppy disc. Insert the floppy
disc into the pc and re-boot it. Follow the instructions and it will erase your entire hard drive.
Then you should be able to install Windows and then use your Recovery disc to bring back what you had before you lost it.
WARNING: This will erase everything on your hard drive!! But, it will reformat it and you will be able to install Windows and then use your Recovery disc.
Good Luck,
EDHow do I clear out the hardrive on my desktop computer?
If you have a backup copy of your operating system. The best bet would be to reformat the hard drive. This would destroy all information on the hard drive. You must re-install the operating syatem after reformating the drive. This is the only sure fire way to delete files.
If you have material on your computer which might get you into any legal trouble then I suggest that you don't sell it at all; better safe than sorry.

If this is a Dell try whats below
If not sorry for wasting your time
Using Dell PC Restore by Symantec
NOTICE: Using Dell PC Restore permanently deletes all data on the hard drive and removes any applications or
drivers installed after you received your computer. If possible, back up the data before using PC Restore. Use PC
Restore only if System Restore did not resolve your operating system problem.
NOTE: Dell PC Restore by Symantec is not available in all countries or on all computers.
Use Dell PC Restore by Symantec only as the last method to restore your operating system.
PC Restore restores your hard drive to the operating state it was in when you purchased the computer.
Any programs or files added since you received your computer鈥攊ncluding data files鈥攁re permanently
deleted from the hard drive. Data files include documents, spreadsheets, e-mail messages, digital photos,
music files, and so on. If possible, back up all data before using PC Restore.
To use PC Restore:
1 Turn on the computer.
During the boot process, a blue bar with www.dell.com appears at the top of the screen.
2 Immediately upon seeing the blue bar, press %26lt;Ctrl%26gt;%26lt;F11%26gt;.
IF YOU DO NOT PRESS %26lt;CTRL%26gt;%26lt;F11%26gt; IN TIME, LET THE COMPUTER FINISH STARTING, AND THEN RESTART THE
COMPUTER AGAIN.
NOTICE: If you do not want to proceed with PC Restore, click Reboot in the following step.
3 On the next screen that appears, click Restore.
4 On the next screen, click Confirm.
The restore process takes approximately 6鈥?0 minutes to complete.
56 Troubleshooting Tools
5 When prompted, click Finish to reboot the computer.
NOTE: Do not manually shut down the computer. Click Finish and let the computer completely reboot.
6 When prompted, click Yes.
The computer restarts. Because the computer is restored to its original operating state, the screens that
appear, such as the End User License Agreement, are the same ones that appeared the first time the
computer was turned on.
7 Click Next.
The System Restore screen appears and the computer restarts.
8 After the computer restarts, click OK.
Go to Microsoft Updates as you now will be WAY out of date.
Hmmm...some of the advice you have gotten is not quite right.
Reformatting your hard drive will NOT erase completely the tracks of what now is on it. Forensic disk reading software -- even some simple file recovery software -- will find and be able to retrieve some of those files.
Whomever told you to wipe free space and use a shredder was right. If you are selling just the hardware--not an operational computer with Windows (or any other OS installed)--then you can and should reformat the hard drive after you have wiped it AND when you are sure you are completely ready to end its useful-to-you life.
You can get a decent (not great, but for this purpose it will do) file shredder for free. Go to download.com, search file shredder and look for File Shredder 2. Read about it and the CNet editors' review.
You can choose the algorithm to use for erasing those files you want to erase AND to shred free space. Do it. I suggest using the Guttman method (35 passes)--and then reshred free space (yes, again) using one of the DOD-standard methods.
Obviously, you must identify the files you wish to shred and be sure to get all those you want to get without impairing your computer's ability to continue to function while you shred (and later, reformat, if you are going to do that).
And I once read advice about cleaning your hard drive before you dispose of your computer from a high-level security expert: wipe it at least 50 times (my advice above won't get you to 50, but it will be pretty darn thorough)--and then drive a stake through the drive. (The last part is not a good idea if you intend to sell a working computer.)
Good luck!
formating once is not enough. If you quick format it will just erase the file allcoation tables if your using fat32 or the MFT if your using ntfs. When you delete a file in windows the file is just marked as delted. The file is still in its sector on the disc. when you format a disk it erases everything on the disc. When you format with windows it just puts 0s and 1s on the hard disk. 0 and 1s are how a computer reads stuff. you have to format the drive more than once. I recommend 3 times the minum. I use this program to format my disc. It is call dban nuke disc it is a free program that boots from a floppy or cd. check out the site http://dban.sourceforge.net/
Google windowswasher, it gives you the ability to format your pc if you want to get rid of sensitive data you don't want others to see. Best of all, it's a 30 free day trial with lots of options to reformat: Simple one's and zeroez, to russian encryption.
just format providing there nothing super secret no1 will ever bother to look and it all be gone use win xp cd or win me or what ever and just format and reinstall windows then ur good to go
(the only way gettin data back after that is using pritty good stuff like programs designed to do it so i doubt any 1 will even bother) if ur realy worried just buy new hard driver 拢40 for a 500gb 1 lol
and file shredding ok but u dnt realy want to go all thro ur pc lookin for ever little bit of data do u ? like all internet exploer cache all the cookies all the temp files all reg files lot easier just to format
easiest way is to reformat the computer. that erases everything and puts the os back on there. Of course you have to reinstall all the programs.
Physically shred it.I want to sell my computer, how can I clear my hard drive?

How does one clear personal files from a computer and restore back to original state (w/o the cd)?
Im leaving my workplace, and want to clear my computer of all files for privacy reasons. I do not have the back up CD. What are the options to clear and restore to original state? How does one clear personal files from a computer and restore back to original state (w/o the cd)?
Delete all your own files which you KNOW you created. In addition, use DIsk Cleanup to get rid of the temporary Internet files, downloaded files and cookies.
Start - Programs - Accessories - System tools - Disk Cleanup.
Lastly, your tech people probably have a ';Gold Disk'; or ';Image'; which they can 'reimage' your PC. Ask them to do this for your own personal security. How does one clear personal files from a computer and restore back to original state (w/o the cd)?
Without the CD or a ';Restore Partition';, you can't. Your best solution would be to go through the system and delete all personal files.
You will need to talk to someone in your IT department, if you have one. Otherwise you will just have to remove all your personal files individually. Remember that the computer and the information that is not personal that it contains, belongs to your company and you could in theory face legal action for destroying that information.free antivirus download

How do I clear all data on my computer?
I want to have my computer like i just pulled it out of the box.
But the computer says that the file that helps me do that is infected so it wont let me use it.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!How do I clear all data on my computer?
Step 1
Backup any computer data that you wish to save. Resetting Windows XP will completely wipe your hard drive and delete all files on your computer. You may backup your computer using blank CDs/DVDs, an external hard drive or an online backup service such as Mozy.com.
Step 2
Insert the original Windows XP installation disk into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
Step 3
Click the Start menu button in the lower left-hand corner of Windows XP and select Restart to reboot your computer.
Step 4
Press any key on your keyboard during the booting process to launch the Windows XP installation setup screen.
Step 5
Choose Enter Setup on the setup screen. Do not click Repair. After selecting Enter Setup, press the Enter key on your keyboard.
Step 6
Review the licensing terms provided by Microsoft to all users of the Windows XP operating system. Press the F8 key on your keyboard to confirm that you have read these terms and agree to them.
Step 7
Wait for the Windows XP installation disk to scan your hard drive and locate your current Windows XP installation. Select the target hard drive partition in which you wish to reset and restore the Windows XP operating system. Typically, the default drive is the C:\\ partition.
Step 8
Select the type of Windows file system that you wish to revert to from the setup screen. Click Enter after making your selection.
Step 9
Press Enter on the next screen to prompt the setup software to begin the Windows XP reset process. Wait for the entire reinstall process to complete before closing the dialog box. Depending on the size of your hard drive and the speed of your computer processor, this process may take several hours.
Step 10
Type your entire Windows XP registration code at the end of the installation process.
Step 11
Enter the settings for the Windows XP reset, such as your time zone and name. This will erase any current settings in your old Windows XP installation.

Step 3
Once you have reviewed the readme file, go back and click on the download for either CD and DVD media or floppy disks and USB flash drives .
Step 4
Once you have the program downloaded, re-boot the computer. The readme file has some instructions for how to do this, since the program cannot be started from within Windows, and you need to have the DBAN program start before the operating system on the hard drive is started.

Would like to clear things off computer so it will work quicker how?
alot of times when I am checking e-mail it wont click to where i can answer.Would like to clear things off computer so it will work quicker how?
Clean out your cache. If you are using Internet Explorer, go to TOOLS, then INTERNET OPTIONS, then click DELETE. Then DELETE FILES and wait until it is done, you will see a little action window. Then DELETE COOKIES, same thing. Then DELETE HISTORY, and wait. Once it is done, click OK. Go back to your desktop, out of your browser, and go to START, ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS and click on DISK CLEAN UP. Once that is done, restart your computer. That should help. Also in Accessories, you may want to do disk defragment, but maybe overnight because it may take a while.Would like to clear things off computer so it will work quicker how?
Working faster involves two things, Memory %26amp; Processor speed. Those to items are what runs a computer basicly. You can be mislead into thinking things are removed when in fact they are simply ';put to the side'; and still occupy your disk space and read which slows all computers down.
Weekly disk clean up and defrag is about all one can do to maintain optimum performance.

How do I clear my harddrive without logging on my computer?
Make sure you want to do this. There are two ways to start this: first, you can put your Windows CD in the drive and reboot the computer. It will immediately give you the option to reinstall windows or erase the hard drive.
The second way is to access the DOS prompt and use a built-in program called FDISK. You can access it (I think) by just typing cd/fdisk at the prompt. You should look this up before trying it.How do I clear my harddrive without logging on my computer?

Is there a free program to clear up digital pictures on my computer?
What I mean is that if there is a picture on my computer that's small and I enlarge it its very pixelated. Is there a program to clear it up? I've seen programs like that in the movies so I was wondering if there is anyway I could get a program like that?Is there a free program to clear up digital pictures on my computer?
What dewcoons and Kevin ? gent said are true you can`t do that with software .A lot of the graphics stuff they show on TV and such is fake most of the picture`s that you see on TV that are like that are GIF Animation`s. That are big picture`s made into small picture`s and run backward`s so that the small picture`s look like it has been made big.But here is one way you can make a small picture big. You have to change the resolution of a picture with most picture editing this is hard to do or it can`t be done at-all. You can try this it may help you to do what you want to do. If you have a printer and a Scanner and your picture is already in your computer you can use the printer to print it out with the small resolution and scan it back into your computer at a higher resolution of 300 or 350 and with a higher resolution you can make your picture bigger without it getting fuzzy or getting pixelated.
I hope this can help you.Is there a free program to clear up digital pictures on my computer?
And you have seen flying cars, invisible force fields, and aliens out to conquer the world in the movies also. And they are about as believable as a program that can depixelate a picture. No such program exist.
Here is a trick you can try if you have a scanner. Print out the picture, and then put it on your scanner. Usually the scanner will allow you to scan in a picture at a larger size than the original. (Look through the settings or options in the scanner software.) That enlarged scan will NOT be pixalized like enlarging with a graphic programs. The computer does not have to estimate or average what to put in the picture to expand it. It can look at the original.
the person above is correct
i have done this with a passport sized photo and now have an A3 size image
its a small image scanned at the highest setting
